When you think of wine aficionados, do you think of wealthy couples with fully-stocked cellars built under their house? Not everyone has this kind of space, time, or money, so a wine refrigerator is the best way to strike a middle ground between collecting and storing a good number of bottles, and not needing a cellar. There are many models, but one of the most compact is the Cascina 34 Bottle Single Zone Wine Refrigerator.
The Cascina 34 Bottle Single Zone Wine Refrigerator is 33 inches high, 19 inches wide, and 18 inches deep. This makes it compact enough to store in your kitchen – or wherever you want, really – without compromising space. However, it should be noted that the unit requires two inches of air space on each side and three inches in the back (it vents through the back). So, a space of 33 inches high, 23 inches wide, and 21 inches deep would be needed to accommodate it.
This fridge is freestanding and compact. It can hold up to 34 bottles at any given time, while still providing ideal temperatures to all 34 bottles. Its design features include a black cabinet, glass door framed in stainless steel, removable wooden shelves, and blue LED lighting. Its performance features include digital temperature control and vibration dampening.
The black cabinet is sleek and perfectly complements the glass door, which showcases your collection. The glass features UV tinting, which prevents harmful rays from entering the fridge. The door’s stainless steel frame and handle lend stability and an ultramodern look, and the door includes a lock on the outside to keep the wine safe. You can safely show off your collection without worrying about guests or children getting to it – no one touches your bottles without your key.
The fridge includes a storage area on the bottom which can easily accommodate oversized bottles. This storage area fits four bottles, combined with the 30 which can be stored on the shelves (five bottles on six shelves).
The wooden shelves can each hold five bottles, are removable, and pull out for easy storage and removal of bottles. By removing shelves, you can make room for larger bottles.
The blue LED lighting saves energy and illuminates your collection at the same time. You can leave the light off for extra security and energy savings, and only turn it on to find a specific bottle or check if you need to buy more. Or you can leave the light on at all times to show off your assortment. The choice is up to you and accomplished by the simple push of a button. Not only does the LED lighting save energy and money, it also uses less heat than standard incandescent bulbs, further protecting your collection.
The temperature controls are easy to use and conveniently located on the outside of the fridge, so you never have to open it just to adjust the temperature. An LED display shows you the current temperature inside the fridge, and push buttons allow you to adjust it. The temperature can be set within a range of 39 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Since white wines do best in a temperature of 40 to 50 degrees F, and red wines within 55 to 65, this range is ideal for any type of wine. An automatic defrost option is also available.
The vibration dampening system does exactly what its name implies – it reduces vibrations, which protects the integrity of each wine and also helps to reduce noise.

Though it is compact, it does require some air space on the sides and in the back, so plan accordingly when looking for a space to put it.
At 62 pounds, this fridge is not exactly lightweight.
You can store reds or whites, but there is only one temperature zone, so storing a mix of red and white might be problematic.
The shelves are very close together, so in order to accommodate all 34, the bottles will need to be relatively small, maybe one or two should be smaller than the standard 750ml size to offer a bit more room.
At times the shelves seem very flimsy and can be difficult to remove.
